Did you know that islanders on La Gomera developed a unique whistling language called Silbo? Although the language was pushed to the brink of extinction by modern conveniences like the telephone and the Internet, the Gomerans' chirpy chatter is now making a strong comeback.
As a freelance writer based in Barcelona, Spain, I’ve naturally become a specialist in Spanish travel and culture. Quirky festivals and traditions, historical sites, food and wine, politics, fashion, celebrities, and sports are all topics I’ve covered extensively in feature articles and guidebooks. If your project requires insider information about Spain, I’d be happy to hear from you.

A bit about me... I grew up in North Carolina, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 2000, I’ve been living in and around Barcelona, Spain, an area that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with. After a short stint at the Spanish publishing company HYMSA (www.hymsa.es), where I worked on the launch of the Spanish version of In Style magazine, I became the Barcelona correspondent for the Associated Press (www.ap.org), writing about everything from Spanish news and politics to local culture, travel, celebrities and sports. Since then, I’ve written for dozens of publications including Conde Nast Traveler, People Magazine, Easy Jet’s inflight magazine, and many others. I’ve also authored or contributed to nearly a dozen guidebooks about Spain. Find more details on the Published Works page.
